BRG_StandardGreenLogo Fads come and go in every culture. Regardless of whether we shudder when we look back, there was a time in the 90’s when leopard print spandex was in fashion. Then there are the things that start off as fads but end up becoming a permanent part of the culture. “Going Green” is a movement that has been gaining steam in recent years; it’s also a movement that looks like it will be sticking around for good. Furthermore, it’s a movement that isn’t only focused on being fashionable; it’s about making a difference. So, you can jump on the bandwagon and feel good about it too. Since “Going Green” is such a broad and far-reaching movement it can be difficult to know how to take the first step. For example, how exactly are you suppose to judge how big your carbon footprint is and does it have any relation to your shoe size? It can be overwhelming to try and figure out where to start, and that’s what this article is for. It offers a few suggestions of places where you can start becoming more eco-friendly. Pick and choose what, if any, of these ideas you want to implement. They’re here to help jumpstart the process and show how easy and practical it is to go a little greener. T-Shirts The first place many screen printers will turn to when thinking about adding new ideas is their t-shirts. I mean that’s what the business is usually all about, right? More and more vendors are offering eco-friendly options in their t-shirt lines. From shirts that are 100% organic cotton, to fleece that have recycled polyester in them, to shirts that are made out of bamboo or hemp. It’s true that these shirts can be more expensive than your basic cotton tee, but they are also often extremely soft and comfortable as well as eco-friendly. For most screen printers it would be impossible to switch to only eco-friendly shirts, but when a customer requests shirts that are eco-friendly, remember that there are plenty of options and don’t forget to explain the added benefits of softness and comfort. Because everyone loves a comfy tee. Remember that you can charge a premium for eco-friendly shirts, thereby helping both the environment and your bottom line.
